Eligibility, Rules & Key Dates

Nominees should review the details below before submitting a nomination. Only entries who meet the requirements will be considered for a Canadian Cannabis Award.

Eligibility


The Canadian Cannabis Awards (the “Awards”) are presented by Lift Co. Ltd. (the “Presenter”). Nominations will be open from Monday, August 13, 2018 at 9:00 AM EDT to Friday, September 7, 2018 at 11:59 PM EDT (the “Nomination Period”).

Entries must have been active/operated/been sold and/or available in full or in part between December 1, 2017 to September 28, 2018. If entries do not comply with the entry guidelines, they will be disqualified at the discretion of the Presenter. The Presenter is not responsible for any entrant submission error.

Please note that nominations for companies, people, products that are not provided for under the Cannabis Act will not be considered for a Canadian Cannabis Award.

Nomination Process


To be eligible for nomination the company/Individual/product must be operating, living or available in the in the Canadian market, either in full or in part between December 1, 2017 to September 28, 2018.

Companies/Individuals are only able to nominate themselves once per category. If multiple entries are received for the same company/person in the same category, only the first one will be considered.

Only entries made directly (“Self-Nomination”) by a licensed producer or company will be considered for the following categories:  Top Indica Flower; Top Sativa Flower; Top Hybrid Flower; Top High CBD Flower; Top High THC Flower; Top Balanced Flower; Top High CBD Oil; Top High THC Oil; Top Balanced Oil; Top LP Customer Service; Top Accessory Shop; Top Clinic; Top Desktop Vaporizer; Top Portable Vaporizer; Top Rolling Paper; Top Grinder; Top Pipe; Top Bong; Top Home Growing Box; Start-up of the Year; Cannabis Product of the Year; Innovation of the Year; Top Non-Profit/Charity/Community Initiative; Most Progressive Public Office; Marketing Campaign of the Year; Brand of the Year; Top Testing Lab; Top Trimmer; Top Seed Company; Top Extraction Equipment; Top Nutrients Company; Top Lighting Company; Employer of the Year.

Nominations for all other categories may be Self-Nominated OR by nominated by a secondary party.

Voting Process


Voter-driven categories are categories where the winners are determined by the votes of the general public. The following categories are voter-driven:  Top Sativa Flower; Top Hybrid Flower; Top High CBD Flower; Top High THC Flower; Top Balanced Flower; Top High CBD Oil; Top High THC Oil; Top Balanced Oil; Top LP Customer Service; Top Accessory Shop; Top Clinic; Top Desktop Vaporizer; Top Portable Vaporizer; Top Rolling Papers; Top Grinder; Top Pipe; Top Bong; Top Home Growing Box; People & Social Media; Cannabis Crusader; Cannabis Influencer; Top Twitter Influencer; Top Cannabis YouTuber; Top Cannabis Podcast. The nominees for this period will be announced on September 28, 2018. Voting will begin September 28, 2018 at 9:00AM EDT and will remain open until October 26, 2018 at 11:59PM EDT (the “Voting Period”). Voting will be available online via the Awards website (https://canadiancannabisawards.com). Voters will be asked to select their top choice for each category listed on the Awards website. The winners will be chosen based on the total number of votes received.

Nominations in a single category that have received an equal number of votes at the close of the Voting Period shall be submitted to the judging committee (the “Committee”) who will hold a vote to determine the final winner.

Judging Process


The judging process will take place from September 28, 2018 9:00AM EDT to October 26, 2018 11:59PM EDT (the “Judging Period”) and will be adhered to by the Committee. Places on the Committee are filled by invitation of the Presenter and represent a diverse cross-section of the cannabis industry, including but not limited to business leaders, policy makers, scientists and writers.  No individual shall be on the Committee for more than one (1) consecutive year.

The Committee will follow the process below:

The Committee will be provided with a list of nominees for each category, based on the nominations received during the Nomination Period.

Committee members will be asked to recuse themselves from voting in categories where they: 1. Work for a company nominated in that category; 2. Are a shareholder/stakeholder in a company or product nominated; 3. If they share a household with, or are the immediate family of an individual nominated; or 4. If they share a household with, or are the immediate family of an individual who works for or is a shareholder/stakeholder in the company or product nominated.

The Committee will be asked to score each nomination from 1-10 (10 being the highest) for each criterion outlined in the nomination process. The criteria may vary for each category.  The score of each criterion will be averaged to determine the final score for each nomination. Nominations with the highest final score will be declared the winner. The Awards will recognize the top three scored nominations in each category. The results of the Committee and the voters will be considered final.

Special Awards


Top Licensed Producer – This prestigious award weighs votes from all licensed producer categories, including Top Customer Service, Employer of the Year, and all Top Strain awards to determine the winner. Licensed Producers must Self-Nominate for the licensed producer categories by the nomination deadline to be considered for this Award

Employer of the Year – Companies will Self-Nominate for Employer of the Year during the Nomination Period. An employee survey will then be sent to each employer for their staff to fill out, which includes numerous questions on the employee’s experience with the company. Based on the responses, the average score will be calculated, and an overall winner selected. The next nine (9) runners-up will also be calculated to make up the Top 10 Employers of the Year.

The following categories of winners are determined by the Presenter based on the data available from the lift.co website:

Top Lift & Co. Reviewer is selected based on the total number and quality of reviews contributed to the lift.co website.

Top Reviewed Product of the Year is awarded to the product with the greatest number reviews coupled with the highest product ratings on the Lift.co website. Website data will be based on the period of December 1, 2018 to September 7, 2019.

Top Reviewed Licensed Producer is awarded to the licensed producer with the greatest number reviews coupled with the highest ratings on the lift.co website. Website data will be based on the period of December 1, 2018 to September 7, 2019.

Celebrity Advocate is an honorary award determined by the Presenter which recognizes a prominent individual for his or her well-publicized cannabis activism and efforts to normalize cannabis.

Winners Announced & Gala Reception:  November 29, 2018

Winners will be announced at the Awards Gala on November 29, 2018, with the exception of the following categories which will be publicly announced by the Presenter via press release on October 17, 2018: Cannabis Crusader, Top Lift & Co. Reviewer, Top Reviewed Product of the Year, and Top Reviewed LP of the Year (the “Other Categories).
